On the Farm

Well... I am a day later than I planned posting this, but the good news is... I am finally getting it posted!! I have to tell you, the top picture of this LO is one of my all time favorites of my daughter (Lauren) with my dad. My dad grew up on a farm and even though he was not a 'farmer' when I was growing up, I was brought up like he was! We had a massive garden, did all the canning and freezing of veggies, and had a list of chores daily. The only thing that we didn't have were the cows!! A few years ago, my dad's company picnic was at a local farm so he and my mother took the grandchildren with them... you know... to show them off!! While they were there, Lauren had a chance to drive the tractor and my dad got on with her. My mother (who takes as many pictures as I do) snapped this photo and I treasure it. My dad looks so happy and he was able to share a little of himself that day with the grandchildren. Lauren, and all my children, are soooo lucky to have such incredible grandparents... I remind them daily!!

The sketch I used for this comes from Pratical Scrappers this week. As soon as I saw the sketch, I knew it would be perfect for these photos! The papers are from the kit I ordered from the Poppy Paper Kit Co. Most of the embellishments came from that kit too. I added a brad from Spare Parts and the metal heart came from Memory Makers. I also used the kit for the post below this one... Berry Pickin'. Cricut: Cuttin' Up, Wild Card, Give a Hoot

As always, thanks for stopping by and looking at my LO. I love being able to share a little bit of my life a LO at a time!! Barb  :)

Berry Pickin

So... I was so excited to get my new kit from Paper Poppy Kit Co. last week!! Thanks Beatriz for sharing this great little kit with us!! I loved the papers and all the embellies that came with it, but I must admit, these are papers I would not normally pick out when in a scrapbooking store... but I think that is why I liked it so much!!

I have had pictures I wanted to scrap but had not gotten to it... probably because I never had the right papers... but these are perfect!! These pictures are of my daughter and I with her cousins out raspberry pickin' last summer!! We had soooo much fun and picked soooo many raspberries that I didn't know what to do with all of them.!!! After eating several, and making cobblers, my sister, my mom and I decided to make raspberry jam!! YUMM!! And it actually tasted great!! I used the sketch from Sketchy Thursdays for this LO.

I actually stuck to it pretty well this time!! There is always a first time for everything!! lol!!

Here are a few more close ups!

Supplies used:
Most Papers and embellies came from the Paper Poppy Kit
The only supplies I added were some cardstock, the white lace and a few brads!
Cricut: Graphically Speaking, Give a Hoot

I have another LO using these same papers that I will be posting tomorrow! Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog and take a peek... and as always, thank you so much for your kind words you leave me each time you visit!! It totally makes my day!! Barb :)

Do What You Love

It's Friday again... and we all know what that means.... another challenge at Frosted Designs. This week the challenge is to use acrylic, transparency or vellum in your project. Well.... I have done the vellum thing, but I knew the transparency thing would be a real challenge for me.... so I went for it!! I found these beautiful papers from K & Company that included a full page transparency. It took me a little while to get started... to really figure out the look I wanted... but once I got it going... I had so much fun!! Here is the LO....

I started with a full page transparency that I layed over plain cardstock. I cut the red frame using Ashlyn's Alphabet. I layed the center circle under the transparency with the picture.... Greg and I on Pialoa Beach (The same beach as the LO I did yesterday of Matt and Lauren.) I then took the frame, sanded it, pop dotted it and put it on top of the transparency. I loved the depth it gave right away. Added a few rhinestones, flowers and a bird and called it done!

The tranparency had flowers printed in each corner, so I took some premade K & Company flowers and pop dotted them on top of the transparency. I loved the way it suddenly had so much dimension. I added a lot more flowers to the bottom corner and only a few to the top.... I thought to add a lot to both would take away from the photo. Besides, I love the butterfly and wanted to show it off a bit!!

After I had layered, stickled and added rhinestones to everything I thought needed it, I decided I still was not done. The flowers that were preprinted on the transparency were kind of lost and boring.... so I did what I do best, I added more stickles!! lol!! Seriously though, I couldn't believe what a difference it made... it gave the flowers a whole new look and I must admit... I love it!! So much so, this LO is already framed and hanging in my office!!   When I started, I wasn't sure I was going to stick to this plan... but I am so glad I did... I think it turned out great and I taught myself a lesson in the process!!

Supplies used:
Cricut: Ashlyn's Alphabet
Stickles: I think every color they make is on this one!!
Papers and embellishments: K & Company

Thank you for stopping over and looking at my LO! Now head on over to Frosted Designs and see what my very creative design sisters have to show you... they are amazing, aren't they?!! And after you have done that, get out your supplies and show us what you can do... make sure you link it up so we can enjoy your work too!! And, as always, thank you for your sweet words... I love hearing from you!

Pailoa Beach - Maui

I have so many pictures of our trip to Maui last spring break.... yes, I did say LAST spring break!! Boy do I have some scrappin'  to do!! I had lots and lots of them printed finally, so I'm sure you will be seeing many more LOs in the future... unless of course I start scrapping this year's spring break before I get last years done... okay so maybe I hop around a little with my photos... I know I'm not the only one!! These pictures are from our day trip to Hana. We stopped at several spots and just enjoyed the beautiful scenery and incredible views. These were taken at Pailoa Beach. The kids LOVED the black sand beach!

I am combining a few challenges this week. The first is the SOUS (Stuck On U Sketches) challenge... got to do that one! So here is the sketch I used....

I love this one... may just have to use it again!!  The other challenge is from Practical Scrappers who are challenging us to use up our supplies. We were to use some supplies that are at least a year old.... this was great for me because I keep buying new stuff and need to clear out some of the old!! lol!!!  The only thing that is new on this page is the paper(K & Company). Everything else is well over a year old... the fiber, chipboard elements, flowers, rub on letters... all very old!!

I know the papers are a little girly, but I figured that is okay since it is going into Lauren's album. Now I will need to scrap some of these pictures for Matt's album and the family album.... so much to do!!!  :)

And finally... thanks to all my blog friends who are so kind to stop by and leave me a comment! I love hearing from all of you!! You're the best!!

So much fun news to share!!!

Wow... I  received two new awards!! (Okay, maybe they are not so new... I just have been too busy doing my house fix-it projects to get them posted before now!) Can you believe it?!  I am feeling the blog love big time!! The first award comes from Sharon at Cards N Greetings. Stop over and check out all the amazing projects she creates!  She is also part of the Frosted Designs team and continues to wow me each week!! Thanks Sharon!!

Now, as I accept this award, I need to do a few things:
1. Give a top ten list of things that make you happy
2. Give a top five list of trivia about myself
3. Share the award with only 5 people and ask them to do the same
4. Link the blogs you choose and link the blog of the person who gave it to you!!

Soooooo...
Top 10 things that make me happy....
1. God... He has been so good and faithful to me and my family this year
2. My hubby!!
3. My children who are growing and maturing every day...
4. Scrapbooking.... need I say more?
5. Family vacations! Love to travel!!
6. Chocolate... can't go a day without it!
7. Spring... warm weather... chirping birds...
8. Summer vacation... I am a teacher after all!!  LOL!!
9. Sleeping in... happens on a rare occasion!
10. Laying by my pool with a Nicholas Sparks book....

Trivia about myself....
1. I am a serious night owl... sometimes I stay up until 2 in the morning and then get back up at 6 to start my day! Crazy... I know!!
2. I have 2 sisters and a brother and a whole lot of amusing stories growing up with them!!
3. I really hate to clean my house... even though I want it clean all the time! I can't stand dust either!!
4. I have lived in Fort Wayne, IN my entire life...no wonder I am soooooo excited about our upcoming move!
5. When I was in school I was a cheerleader, gymnast and on the dance team!

Now to share the blog love with 5 other people.... I am going to start with the entire Stuck On U Design team... I know they get more awards than they know what to do with, but they were the reason why I started my blog to begin with!! And I am soooo glad I did.... I am having so much fun with it! I have made some really great blog friends!! And besides that... these four ladies always seem to be able to find something so nice and sweet to say about my LOs...even when I can't!!   :)  So... I am sending this to....
Leah - Beeing Creative and Feeling Cheery
Sandy - Details by Sandy
Sandi - Soft Side of Sandi
Nanne - Nanne's Creations
And for my fifth person.... I am going to award it to
Lidia (Rainbow) - Breaking Barriers
We have just recently become bloggy friends... and her LOs are stunning!! Talk about serious inspiration and talent!! Wow! If you haven't met her yet... go check her out!

So... thanks again to Sharon for being so kind and sharing this with me!  I loved reading all of the interesting tidbits about her... I hope you enjoy learning more about me!!

And my next award was given to me by Debbie Bakk at Debbie Bakk's Scrappin Corner! How super sweet is she?! Debbie recently started her blog and it is full of inspiration! Take the time to stop by and check it out... I am sure she would love to have a few new followers!!

I know this award is supposed to be passed on to others so I am going to do just that... I am passing it on to ALL of my followers!! All of you have amazing talent and I get so much inspiration from the projects you post daily... so take it!! It's yours!! and since I have received this award before, I won't make you suffer through the list of 7 things about me... I'm sure you have all had enough of that!!  LOL!!

And on to the most important subject.... I know you are all asking... what DID I DO with the winnings from Fern?!!! Well have no worries... I had no problem at all spending that money!! A lot of what I bought was inspired by Fern's pages... they are always so amazing and beautiful and they have the best gem and pearl flourishes and Prima flowers... they are just so gorgeous!! (Click HERE to check out Fern's work) And I am usually too cheap to buy those things because by the time I plan a page I want them on, I have to go to the scrapbook store where they are sooo expensive and purchase them... but when I won Fern's blog candy... I decided I was going to stock up on the embellies I have always wanted... you know, the things you won't always buy yourself... and that is exactly what I did!! So... I turned this...
into this...

One of the things I am most excited about ws the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser!! I was doing all of that distressing with scissors... this is soooo much easier and a whole lot of fun!! Besides the fourishes and Prima flowers, I added some metal embellies like the keys and some K & Company paper embellishments, bingo tags, etc.  My 7 year old was sooo super excited to see the butterflies arrive because she knows they are going on her pages!! Thank you Fern for giving me a scrapbooking shopping spree!! I truly enjoyed it!!

Think Spring...

Are you all as ready for spring as I am?!!! At Frosted Designs this week, it's all about SPRING!!!! So, create some LOs/cards/projects with flowers and link them up at FD! We would love to see what you create! And while you are there, check out my design team sisters.... they are so amazing and so talented!! I get so many ideas from them!! Hopefully you will too!

Have any of you seen Alice in Wonderland yet? Silly question... of course you have!!! Well.. I went with my daughters (18 & 20) and their friend. The movie was great and we enjoyed it, but the best part of going with them came at the credits. As they were sitting there chatting, they became completely mesmorized by the screen. As the credits are rolling, there is this dark garden gate that continues to change as vines grow, flowers bloom and the whole screen is turned into a beautiful garden! (At least this is the way I remember it!) But the girls were so fascinated by the changing flowers and colors, it really caught my eye and was the inspiration behind this LO! That is why I had to include a little blue caterpillar and mushrooms!! LOL!!

I don't know if you remember my family LO from techinique week at Frosted Designs, (you can find it by clicking HERE) but I had some flowers I had made from coffee filters and Glimmer Mist. Well, I made too many circles but kept them. Which was good because I pulled them out for the LO!! The flowers on here are those same circles. I spiral cut them, rolled them up and glued them. When they dried, I added a little liquid pearl to the petals and there you go!! A totally different flower for this LO!! I also used a punch to cut some of the smaller flowers with the rhinestones in the middle.

The vines and leaves were all cut by hand using felt as were the mushrooms. I thought the mushrooms needed a little more decoration so I added a lot of stickles!! I love the way they turned out!! The dragonflies have stickles and seed beads added to them for a little extra bling! The gate was welded together using my gypsy. Oh... and I guess I should give you a little info about the photo... I had Lauren at the zoo last summer and they were doing face painting! She insisted on a very large pink butterfly! When we got home, she insisted on putting on this fairy outfit and then going outside for a photo shoot! She was seriously cracking me up, but I did get some great photos!! They are only young once.... right?!!!!

Supplies used:
Cricut Carts: Easter, Gypsy Wanderings, Home Decor, Jasmine, Walk in my Garden
Papers: DCWV Pocket Full of Posies Stack, Shimmer stack
Stickles: just about every color
Glimmer Mist: Marshmallow (On the background for added sparkle!)
Misc. Fiber, Rhinestones, and Brads
Martha Stewart border punch
Cuttlebug for photo mat

Catch a Wave

Okay... here's the deal... Sketchy Thursdays had this really great sketch and I thought it would be fun to use it for a LO... but funny thing.... my LO looks nothing like the sketch!! How does that happen?! I guess once I had my papers picked (which I really liked and wanted to use) the sketch kind of needed to be rearranged to fit with my pictures and papers!! LOL!! So.... here is the sketch....
And here is my LO....
Seriously... you would never know that I started with the sketch... Oh well, the good news is that I really like the way it turned out!! :) And we all know that is all that really matters!! LOL!!

These are some more pictures of my son surfing in Maui.... I seriously never thought we were going to get him to come back home with us.... he LOVED it!! You may remember the other LO I did of him surfing ... Surf's Up... and I think this goes really well with it without looking too planned.... after all, he is 17, we wouldn't want his LOs to look planned!!  :)  You can find the other LO by clicking HERE

Supplies used:
Papers: DCWV - Fun In The Sun
Cricut: Sentimentals (Waves) and Graphically speaking

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and looking! Your comments mean so much!! Barb :)

A Day At The Park

Once again, the ladies at Stuck on U Sketches have another fabulous sketch... I just can't help but play along! The sketch is from Becky Fleck over at Pagemaps!

These pictures were taken the summer of '07 and are of my daughter Lauren with her cousin Brayden. These two cousins were born just a few months apart and are pretty good buddies. I was looking back over several pictures this past week and I have so many of the two of them together. But they really had no choice... my baby sister is my bestest buddy and we hang out A LOT!! They learned early that they were going to be spending a lot of time together so they might as well enjoy it!!  LOL!!  You will be seeing a lot more of these two darlings in the future... there are just so many photos!! :)
Supplies used:
Paper: Making Memories - Chloe's Closet
Cricut: Lyrical Letters
Chipboard: Thickers and others from my stash
Flower: Prima blinged up with Stickles
Misc. Brads and Fibers
This also qualifies for the challenge at Practical Scrappers which is to use chipboard.

Ziplining in Maui

It is hard to believe, but another week has passed and it is time for the Frosted Designs team to share their newest challenge... background stamping! We were to create a background for a card/layout/project by using a stamp! You would think this wouldn't be that difficult... but somehow I managed to make it difficult! LOL!! Please stop by the Frosted Designs blog to see all of the amazing things our design team came up with again this week!! And then dust off those old stamps and put them to use! We would love to see what you can create!!

This is a picture of my husband and I ziplining in the West Maui Mountains. We had soooooo much fun!! Even my husband who is afraid of heights enjoyed this adventure! I went with a blue background because the entire time we were in the mountains, we kept looking down at the gorgeous blue ocean with the waves crashing in.... so I kind of went with that idea for my background. I started with a flourish template that I placed on my blue striped paper and sprayed with my blue Glimmer Mist. I misted it lightly because I wanted a subtle background. After it dried, I stamped over it with blue embossing powder that I heat embossed. Actually, that part was really fun because I was just placing random flourishes all over the paper!! Once I was done embossing, I just started layering all of my embellishments.

I was kind of cracking myself up though when I looked back over my past few layouts.... It just seems as though I can't settle on a single style, and I can't decide if that is good or bad!! LOL!! I go from this grungy, outdoorsy LO to the layout covered with flowers and pearls, to the LO with one big clean cut image in the middle to the brightest, cheeriest layout I have ever made!! I guess I am just having a lot of fun with a lot of different techniques right now!!! And.... all of my layouts are going to have their own feel to them! It certainly keeps me from getting bored!! :)

Supplies used on this LO:
Cricut: Home Decor
Glimmer Mist: Sapphire
Metal Embellishments: Tim Holtz
Stamps: Tattered Angels (flourishes on background) , Autumn Leaves (Live Life)
Chalk: Chestnut Roan
Bird : K & Company
Field notes: Tattered Angels
Template: The Crafter's Workshop
Papers: My Mind's Eye - Wild Asparagus

As always, thank you for visiting my blog... and for leaving some blog love! My blog friends are the best!! Thank you for all the encouragement you give me daily!! Barb  :)

Generations

The wonderful ladies over at Stuck On U Sketches have another amazing sketch this week by Becky Fleck from Page Maps. I used a picture from my grandmothers 93 birthday party! It was a surprise party and believe it or not, it is the ONLY birthday party my grandmother has ever had!!! A side story for you... my mother took my grandma for her very first facial that same week!! Can you believe it?! 93 and so much she still has not done!!

So, in this picture, are both of my sister with my mom and grandma... I know, you may have to look closely, my baby sister looks a LOT like me!! She's a little taller, but people mix us up all the time!! And all of our relatives that I had not seen for years, kept reminding me how much I look like my mother... what do you think?! A little family resemblence?!! heehee!! You will probably be seeing some more LOs in the future from grandma's party because there are a lot more pictures I want to scrap.... I might just have to make a mini album!!

I also tried something new on this LO.... after checking out the Cuttlebug Challenge Blog, I decided to play along there too. The challenge was to make "crackled glass" using heat embossing. I tried this technique on the tag with our names on it and love the way it turned out! It is always fun to try something new!

Supplies used on this LO:
Cricut - Home accents, Stone Script
Embellishements - Prima Flowers, metal accents from Making Memories, Clock from Heidi Swapp
Papers - DCWV Neutral Stack, My Mind's Eye Wild Asparagus
Cuttlebug
Various inks and glimmer mist
Clear  and Gold Embossing powders

Thank you to all of you who take the time to comment... I really enjoy your feedback!

Dog Gone Tired

I had some extra time to play around with my scrapbooking this weekend and was able to complete a few LOs!! Gotta love a lazy weekend!! (Although I wouldn't say it was too lazy... I managed to get all the walls and trim washed down in about 7 rooms and touched up the trim with fresh paint!! That's productive, right?!) So this LO was done from a sketch I found at Practical Scrappers. It is of my daughter, Lauren, and our dog Jasmine... who seems to be totally enjoying herself!!  LOL!! So, I decided to stitch the flower which I thought was a great idea until I was only half way done and realized how rediculously long it was taking!! To add a little extra, I strung on a few beads... really like the way that looks!!

Cartridges are Graphically Speaking and All Mixed UP
Paper is DCVW and American Crafts

As always, thank you for stopping by my blog and looking at my LO!! Have a fabulous Sunday!

Technique Challenge - Frosted Designs

Well, it's Friday! And that means another challenge at Frosted Designs! This week the challenge was to share a technique. I love this!! I chose to do masking and Glimmer Mist because it seems to be my new thing to play with. I have used it on several LOs lately and love it!! It can give you the distressed, grunge look or the bright and cheery look I used today!! For this LO, I decided to keep the masking design simple so that it would be easy to explain on here!

So... begin by using a mask you have bought (usually plastic) or cut one out with your cricut machine like I did. Personally I like to cut my own because 1. it's cheaper and 2. I can control the shape better. I originally cut my shape so that it would fit on the 12 x 12 paper that I would spray with Glimmer Mist all the way around. However, after spraying it with glimmer mist, I changed my mind (go figure!) and decided I only wanted to color one side of the paper! So, instead of recutting a new piece, I decided to cut and piece together the orginal mask to the new shape I liked! It worked great... it just looks a little silly in the pictures!!  LOL!! So, lay the shape over the part of the paper you want to remain white (or not misted). Be sure to use something to protect your surface such as wax paper or a work mat because the Glimmer Mist will stain!! Once you have your mask where you want it, spray on the glimmer mist. The more you spray, the better the coverage and darker the shade. But be careful, if you spray too much at one time, you start to get big dark dots. If you like that its fine, if not, spray one layer, let dry and then spray again! When you have the color you want, remove your mask. I know some people like to use repositionable tape to hold the mask in place, for one this simple, it is just as easy for me to push down on the mask while spraying... And as a bonus, I get bright colorful fingers!!  heehee!!
Once the mist was dry, I was able to start adding all of the embellishments and pictures that I wanted. I used a glaze pen to draw the purple lines along the border of the pink and white. I thought the white was a little too white so I added a couple spritzes of glimmer mist to the white background... much better!! (I have a really hard time with too much white space... I really need to work on this!!) And when I found the lace I wanted, but it was in the wrong color, I Glimmer Misted that to match the rest of the LO!! I love this stuff!!

The flowers were a new creation for me!! I started out with coffee filters... (talk to any teacher and you will know that you can do just about any kind of art project with a coffee filter!!  I started by cutting the filters into different size circles. I did not want perfectly round circles so I just free handed it. After they were all cut out, I layed them out on wax paper and sprayed them with 3 different colors. I didn't mix colors this time... but I am thinking it would be cool to try next time!! After the circles were dry, I put a drop of glue in the center of two different sized circles, sat the smaller circle on top and pinched from the bottom for just a bit!! Gave it a few more minutes to dry and topped it with a button!! That's it!! Super simple but I really love the way they turned out... I can see all kinds of possibilities with these and they are sooooo cheap to make!! I will certainly be playing around with this more! I also love how sparklely they are. The smaller pictures show the shine a little better!!
A few pointer when working with Glimmer Mist...
1. Use thicker cardstock. I used a thin sheet of cardstock and when I sprayed it, the paper began to "bubble" a bit.... that is why I ended up mounting this LO on a solid sheet of cardstock that was a little more sturdy.
2. Shake the Glimmer Mist really well before EVERY use!
3. Keep the lid on while shaking it.... I didn't and little drops of Glimmer Mist went flying...right onto my light shirt I was wearing!! I hate it when that happens!

Supplies used on this LO
Cricut: Gypsy Wanderings for the title, Accent Essentials for the mask
Papers: DCWV
Cuttlebug
Stickles: Lavender
Glimmer Mist: Key Lime Pie, Bubble Gum, Fully Purple
Beads: my 7 year olds supply!!  :)  Don't tell her!!

Thank you for stopping by and looking! And thank you to all my dear, sweet blog friends who show me so much blog love... your comments always brighten my day!!

I'm having a Fabulous Monday

I have to say... normally I am not a big fan of Monday... but today I am!! After a busy weekend of home improvement projects and catching up with my husband ...who happens to be in town for the entire week!! (I know it sounds strange but for those of you who know me.. you know he has been working in Texas and I am living in Indiana with the kids until we get the house sold!! It's good to have him home for a week!!) But... back to why I am having a good Monday... During my lunch today, I decided to check out a few of my friends blogs and when doing so...I found out that I won Fern's fabulous Blog candy from Fern's Creations From the Heart!!! Can you believe it?!! I know I certainly can't!! WOW!! Now I can go shopping for some new scrapbooking goodies!! Thank You Fern for such generous blog candy!! Fern has been super duper good to me this week because a few days ago, she passed on the beautiful blog award to me!! WOW!! She is quickly becoming my new bestest blog buddy!!  :)  Seriously though... I know most of you have seen Fern's fabulous work, but if you haven't, you need to stop by her blog... she is simply AMAZING!! and I'm not just saying that because she is giving me $100!!! I'll be sure to let all of you know what I get with my blog candy winnings so you can all join in the fun with me!! Kristin 09

This LO is actually the second page to a different LO that I have not been able to post yet. I will be posting the first page in a few days (It is a challenge at Frosted Designs...)

Anyway... I was out working on my design team challenge at Frosted Designs using the senior pictures of my daughter, Kristin when I realized that I could do a second page using the sketch from Stuck On U Sketches this week. They have a sketch from Amyee Gandy that is sooo great! You need to stop over and check it out!! Anyway... I wanted to do a page where I could use some of her favorite senior pictures all in one place... and this is what I came up with!!

The butterfly and 2009 was made using a masking technique with my Glimmer Mist... I have to say... I am lovin' this these days. I love the way they turned out and in the right light, you can see just how shiny they are!!
Supplies used:
Papers: GCD Studios - Whoop De Doo stack, DCWV Neutral stack
Metal embellies: Tim Holtz and Making Memories
Glimmer Mist - Coffee
Various Inks
